What is Freedom?

So, since I decided to embark on this freedom-finding journey,  I thought it might be sensible to start by asking “What is Freedom?” After all how can one begin a journey when they don’t know where they’re going? 

The dictionary has many definitions of freedom range from

– the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action.

To – liberation from slavery or restraint or from the power of another. (Merriam_Webster)

Freedom, to me, is controlling the level of manipulation present in our day to day lives, what and who we allow to take up our time and space and energy. Freedom is a reclamation of your personal power. But anyone who lives in a government-managed society knows that there are things that get in the way of true freedom, especially if you choose to be a law-abiding citizen. However, we do have choices and can control many other aspects of our life.  

We will hopefully always have choices and freedom to choose our direction in life but there are many different categories in life and many different ways to gain some level of freedom in each. We may not even be aware of how we are allowing our life to carry us off in directions we’d rather it didn’t. If you haven’t already, it’s time to wake up and turn on the radar. There are too many ways and we can be controlled and manipulated, especially if we are not switched on and aware. Something as simple as a food choice or morning routine can have a tremendous impact on how your day goes.

So what are we talking about when we talk about freedom? Here are some of the topics we are discussing on this site. 

Health and Wellbeing. 

If we stay active and are careful about what we put into our bodies. We can go a long way towards being freer to do more in our life. Poor health choices (including how we navigate/frame our thoughts and feelings) make us groggy and unwilling/ unable to do as much as we might like. So it’s important to make healthy choices as often as possible so that energy and clarity become our default mode.

Re-aligning With Nature. 

If we get to know and support nature, nature will do everything in its power to support us. We will no longer need to be reliant on some of the things that were designed by humans to control and manipulate us.

Financial Freedom or Independence.

The way we think about and deal with money can liberate or .depress us. Don’t let it anymore. Getting to grips with money is truly freeing. Let’s start to take control of our money mindset and stop letting money control the narrative.

Location Freedom

When we are free to be wherever we want to be whenever we want to be there, we have taken back a little more of our power and stepped a little closer to freedom. For many of us, it’s that dreaded 9-5 and school routine that prevents us from having location freedom. My main suggestions to help rectify this are finding ways that you can work remotely and considering home education if you have children. I mean who wouldn’t want to earn money from whilst sitting on the beach. There will be more on these subjects in future posts but for now, just sit with the idea and see if it resonates with you.

Creative Freedom

We can create so much power and freedom by utilizing our innate creative ability. Creativity is your superpower and nobody can take that away from you.

Time Freedom and Resourcefulness.

Finding ways to free up your time is an great way to get some of your freedom back. Organise your life to compliment the things you want to achieve and get creative in how you use available tools to create a more seamless existence.

Lifestyle analysis and redesign will set your soul on fire.

So I’ll leave you with a question, What is freedom to you? And what is stopping you from pursuing a little more freedom in your everyday life today?
