Self Love Guide For Absolute Beginners
Self Love Guide For Absolute Beginners

Self care is more than just bubble baths and candles. I’m here to talk about the deeper elements of self care, the inner work, which if we get into the habit of doing regularly, can have longer lasting results.

If there’s one thing we have got to get down if we want to live a passionate, purposeful life, it’s self love. We are so used to putting everyone elses needs before our own that we forget or rarely have time to look after ourselves.

Looking out for others is great, but we can’t pour from an empty cup.

It’s not selfish, it’s imperative that we find, carve out or create the time and space to look after number one.

So hang tight while I go through a few tips to get you started on the road to loving yourself fully and completely, so you can go out and make your biggest contribution to the world.

love yourself like your life depends upon it because it does.

Declutter your life

Make sure your space, time and environment are conducive to living your desired life. How much of what you are surrounded with today truly serves that life you dream of?
It’s time to go through it all and get rid of the junk. As Marie Kondo would say ‘Say no to what no longer brings you joy.’

Affirm the day

Show yourself some love and appreciation. Decide on a personal mantra or two such as ‘I love you truly and deeply,’ ‘I appreciate all you do.’ Repeat it to yourself several times a day.  When youve been doing it for a while it will start to sink in and you can add to it or change it accordingly. It might sound silly but it helps to look in a mirror.

make healthy choices

Healthy patterns of sleep, nutrition and exercise should be top priority. If you currently find these things hard it might be time for a good look at your daily habits, routines and rituals.

cherish your pain

It’s ok to feel pain. Stop, take some deep breaths and allow it to flow through you. Apart from it being the most natural way for us to deal with lifes inevitable turmoils, it is also an amazing way to learn heal and grow. Our deepest pain holds the greatest lessons, if we stop for long enough to look for them.

Spend time in Solitude

I can almost see the confused look on peoples faces. What is this solitude you speak of? We live in a world that seems to only want us to value socialisation. But the fact of the matter is, we all function better when we have time to recharge. The more time you find to spend alone, for deep introspection the better you will feel everytime you emerge. It’s ok to start small. In fact I dare you to begin today. Find a little time to spend with yourself and contemplate your new self love journey.

Commit to continuous growth and improvement

Take responsibility for your growth. Our education isn’t supposed to end when we leave school. We must continue to feed our minds with empowering, growth inducing fuel for life. If we don’t we will stagnate or backslide and that’s when we start taking on the role of victim.

Set healthy Boundaries

Do not allow the people around you to walk all over and disrespect you or tell you how to live your life. If you don’t show the world how to treat you, they will go with their standards and they will rarely align with our own. Time to show them yours.

Forgiveness

Forgive yourself for your mistakes by comitting to be a better person for the future. Nobody’s perfect we all make mistakes. Let go of the things you thing others did to you. They were only functioning at their own level of consciousness and education. Allow their journey to educate them, your peace of mind is too strong a price to pay for someone elses ignorance.

Get to know yourself

What are your strengths, weaknesses, dreams, preconceptions, limits and deepest desires? Time to really get to know yourself and embrace yourself in a big warm accepting hug. You gotta do this for you first. You need to be your biggest supporter and how can you be that to someone you dont truly know.

Accept love and compliments

When someone compliments you do you accept it graciously or do you recoil in horror? If it’s the latter, stop doing that. You are worthy, you are loved, you are cherished and it’s totally ok to let the world help you to realise that.

Set massive goals

Give yourself something big and exciting to work towards and visualise at all times. Break it down into bitesized pieces and schedule it in so you know you will have time to work towards it. Don’t let anyone get in the way of you achieving your dreams..

optimize your daily habits

What can you put in place to help your days flow freer and smoother? How do you organise your life and your routines? Do you delegate or cross of the thinigs from your to do list that could be better done by somebody else? How can you free up more time for the stuff that you truly want and need to do?

Authentic self expression

Do what you want to do, say what you want to say. stop stifling your creativity. You have so many wonderful talents to give to the world it’s time to unleash them. Have you been hiding behind the mask for too long?

Celebrate progress

Make time to celebrate your triumphs no matter how small. You deserve to be celebrated. Make it a priority.
